Robomaster 2018

Overview of the project

I worked as Captain and Head of Mechanical Division in ENTERPRIZE, the HKUST RoboMaster Team in the 2018 season. We developed 6 types of robots to compete in the RoboMaster 2018 Competition where we played against elite teams from mainland China and all over the world. While overseeing the Mechanical Division in developments, I was in charge of the Weapon System of the Infantry Robot and Gripper System of the Hero and Engineer Robots.

We won Champion in the International Regional Competition and Top 32 in the Grand Final.

Displayed on the left is a testing video on the first generation weapon system. The remote feeding system feeds ammo from the cartridge at the back to the turret, which shoot the projectiles at 15 m/s at around 15 rps. Later versions of which reached 35 rps.

Infantry Robot Weapon System

I was in charge of designing the weapon system of the Infantry robot which shoots 17 mm projectiles. I designed an ammo sorting mechanism to sort the ammo inside a cartridge into a line of projectiles, which is pushed through 3D printed tracks up to the turret then shot towards the opponents. The gimbal carrying the shooting mechanism is also part of the design.

Gripper design for Hero and Engineer Robot

I was also in charge of designing grippers for the Hero and the Engineer Robot. These robots needs to acquire ammo boxes in game, which requires a good gripper
